SUMMARY:The effects of oral contraceptives on stroke outcomes
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr. Ami Pravinkant Raval\, Research Associate Profes
 sor\, Department of Neurology\, University of Miami\, Miller School of M
 edicine\n\nDr. Raval currently serves as Research Associate Professor in t
 he Department of Neurology\, Miller School of Medicine at the University o
 f Miami and a Research Health Scientist at the Bruce W. Carter Department 
 of Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Miami. Dr. Raval has training in the
  physiology of reproduction. Her post-doctoral training was in the field o
 f ischemic stroke. She coupled her prior knowledge with laboratory researc
 h on the pathophysiology of stroke. Her research focuses on identifying th
 e mechanisms responsible for sex differences in stroke pathophysiology and
  evaluating novel neuroprotective strategies to reduce post-stroke cogniti
 ve decline. Her ongoing project tests the effects of oral contraceptives i
 n combination with electronic cigarette exposure on post-stroke cognition.
  Dr. Raval has more than 90 peer-reviewed publications. Her research is cu
 rrently funded by grants from Veterans Affairs\, Florida Department of Hea
 lth\, and American Heart Association and she is also a collaborator on mul
 tiple NIH grants.\n\nTalk summary:\n\nThis talk will cover the following o
 bjectives:\n\n 	Identify women’s risk of stroke\n 	Determine effects of 
 vaping-derived nicotine on female brain in context of ischemic stroke\n 	I
 nvestigate efficacy of physical exercise and low frequency vibration inter
 ventions to reduce post-ischemic cognitive decline in female\n\nMentorship
