 igator at BC Children's Hospital\n\nDr. Alexander Beristain is an Associ
 ate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics &amp\; Gynaecology\, UBC and
  an Investigator at BC Children's Hospital. A major focus of his lab inves
 tigates both the cellular and molecular processes that direct trophoblast 
 cell biology in early placental development. Utilizing state of the art ce
 ll isolating techniques and three-dimensional culture systems\, they inves
 tigate:\n\n 	Trophoblast-intrinsic factors that regulate cell motility and
  early organ development\n 	Maternal derived factors (predominantly immune
  cells) that play underlying roles in dictating trophoblast fitness and fu
 nction\n 	Global gene expression and gene regulatory mechanisms specific t
 o highly-specialized invasive subsets of trophoblasts\n\n\n&nbsp\;
