DESCRIPTION:Perinatal mental health researchers have been siloed in their i
 nstitutions without a place to gather and connect for too long. The Women'
 s Health Research Cluster's Perinatal Working Group is hosting a networkin
 g event through the Canadian National Perinatal Research Meeting (CNPRM) t
 o change this. Whether you are attending CNPRM or not\, we welcome all per
 inatal mental health researchers to join this networking session to discus
 s research in our field\, connect with one another and begin building last
 ing relationships. During this session\, we will hear from the Executive D
 irectors of the Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative\, who will 
 demonstrate just how important our research is to change-making in the wor
 ld. Then\, we will all join unique breakout rooms to nerd-out over our fav

 er is a Michael Smith Health Professional-Investigator\, registered psycho
 logist and Clinical Associate Professor with the Department of Family Prac
 tice at the University of British Columbia. She is the head of the UBC Per
 inatal Anxiety Disorder Research Lab (PARLab). Dr. Fairbrother’s researc
 h is in the area of perinatal anxiety disorders and epidemiology\, with a 
 focus on new mothers’ thoughts of infant-related harm and perinatal obse
 ssive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Current research activities include a lar
 ge-scale study of perinatal anxiety and related disorder screening tools\,
  a new study of postpartum harm thoughts and their relationship with OCD a
 nd infant safety\, and several inter-connected studies of fear of childbir
 th. She is currently in the planning stages for a study of the mental heal
 th correlates of gender differences in the distribution of unpaid domestic
  labour and a randomized controlled trial of online CBT for postpartum OCD
 .\n\n\n\n\nLianne Tomfohr-Madsen\nDr. Lianne Tomfohr-Madsen is an Associat
 e Professor of Psychology at the University of Calgary and Visiting Associ
 ate Professor at the University of British Columbia. She received her B.A.
  in Psychology from the University of British Columbia and her Ph.D. from 
 SDSU/UCSD Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology with a specializat
 ion in Behavioural Medicine. Her research is focused on psychological and 
 social factors that promote or detract from optimal health trajectories wi
 th a particular focus on the transition to parenthood. Over the past decad
 e\, she has been involved in development of preventative interventions del
 ivered in pregnancy with the goal of optimizing parent and child health. S
 he is committed to supporting research on the dissemination and implementa
 tion of best practices for preventing and treating parental mental health 
 and relationship distress in the transition to parenthood. Her research is
  supported by a CIHR Early Career Investigator Award in Maternal\, Reprodu
 ctive\, Child and Youth Health Award and a Career Development Award from t

 bois is a mom of one who struggled through early parenting due to undiagno
 sed and untreated perinatal mental illness. She is the Co-founder\, Execut
 ive Director\, and Research Director of the Canadian Perinatal Mental Heal
 th Collaborative. Jaime has 23 years of clinical experience and is current
 ly working as an Advanced Practice Nurse and Psychotherapist in perinatal 
 mental health. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing\, a Perinatal Nurs
 ing Certification from the Canadian Nurses Association and a Perinatal Men
 tal Health certification from Postpartum Support International. Her work e
 xperience includes clinical nursing\, higher education\, and clinical lead
 ership positions. She collaborates at the local\, provincial\, and nationa
 l level with multiple organizations and committees.\n\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\
 ;\n\nPatricia Tomasi \nPatricia Tomasi is a mom of two who struggled to f
 ind help for perinatal mental illness. Her personal experience led her to 
 seek others online in search of peer support while dealing with her own pe
 rinatal mental illness. In 2017\, Patricia started a Facebook Postpartum D
 epression &amp\; Anxiety Support Group providing 24/7 support to thousands
  of women from around the world who flocked to join the private group. Sho
 rtly after\, she co-founded the Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Collabora
 tive\, along with Jaime Charlebois. She is also the founder of the cheeky 
 Maternal Mental Health Matters Blog where she shares her own triumphs and 
 struggles with motherhood\, mental health\, advocacy and her cat. In 2021\
 , Patricia released a comprehensive anthology\, You Are Not Alone\, a coll
 ection of 49 stories from across the 49th parallel chronicling the diverse
  mental health challenges parents experience as they embark on the stages 
 of conception through parenthood. Prior to her advocacy work\, Patricia sp
 ent a decade providing communications and media relations expertise for th
 e Ontario government and in addition to HuffPost\, she also worked as a re
 porter for CTV and CBC news in Vancouver\, Toronto\, Timmins\, and Thunder
  Bay. Patricia is now a former-journalist-turned-fierce-advocate who went 
 from writing about the state of perinatal mental health in Canada as a rep
 orter for HuffPost to lobbying the federal government for a national perin

 hild development &amp\; Family Planning Facilitator\nDr. Anna MacKinnon is
  a postdoctoral fellow at the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Insti
 tute\, in the Departments of Psychology and Community Health Sciences at t
 he University of Calgary. Her research focuses on social determinants of c
 hild health and development\, risk and resilience for perinatal mental hea
 lth\, as well as intervention programs for psychological distress and pare
 nting. She is a registered clinical psychologist\, who received her PhD fr
 om McGill University and completed a CPA-accredited residency at the Londo
 n Health Sciences Centre\, with training in treatment for children and fam
 ilies from diverse backgrounds.\n\n\n\n\nBenicio Frey - Sleep &amp\; Biol
 ogicial Rhythms Facilitator\nDr. Frey is Professor in the Department of P
 sychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University\; Medical D
 irector of the Women’s Health Concerns Clinic at St. Joseph’s Healthca
 re Hamilton\; and Academic Head of the Mood Disorders Program\, McMaster U
 niversity.\n\nHis research is primarily focused on understanding the neuro
 biology of mood disorders\, with a focus on female-reproductive life event
 s. Some of his current research involve clinical trials in the areas of pr
 emenstrual dysphoric disorder\, perinatal anxiety and perinatal emotional 
 dysregulation\, as well as studies of sleep and biological/circadian rhyth
 m disruption across pregnancy and the postpartum period. He has more than 
 250 publications accepted in peer-reviewed journals and has received numer
 ous career awards\, most notably the title of University Scholar in 2020.\
 n\n\n\n\nSamantha Dawson - Perinatal Sexual Health Facilitator\nDr. Sam
 antha Dawson (she/her) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psyc
 hology at the University of British Columbia\, a Michael Smith Foundation 
 for Health Research Scholar\, and Director of the UBC Sexuality and Well-b
 eing (SWell) Lab. Her multi-method research program focuses on identifying
  cognitive and affective mechanisms contributing to sexual function in ind
 ividuals and couples\, especially during times of vulnerability such as pr
 egnancy and the postpartum. The overarching goal is to use these mechanism
 s to develop targeted and gender-specific and inclusive interventions for 
 sexual dysfunction. Her research program involves experimental laboratory-
 based research using various sexual psychophysiological measures\, such as
  eye tracking\, genital plethysmography\, as well as more ecologically val
 id daily experience and longitudinal methodologies. She is committed to in
 novative knowledge translation and recently launched @misconSEXions a soci
 al media knowledge sharing initiative on Instagram that seeks to debunk co
 mmonly held myths regarding sexuality using the latest empirical research.
