SUMMARY:Mind the Gap: Hormonal Contraceptives and Brain Health — Session 
 2: Trainee-Mentor Networking Session
DESCRIPTION:This is the first of four trainee-mentor sessions that is part 
 of our virtual "Mind the Gap: Hormonal Contraceptives and Brain Health" co
 nference\, which brings attention to the brain health issues that women+ 
 face and encourage the medical\, scientific and commercial communities to 
 address them.\n\nThese sessions are offered through a collaboration with t
 he CIHR Institute of Gender and Health Trainee Network and intend to provi
 de trainees with the unique opportunity to meet and engage with sex and ge
 nder experts through informal conversations on diverse topics\, including 
 professional development and research. In this session\, we will be joined
  by Dr. Lori Brotto to discuss communication etiquette within and outside

 n\nDr. Lori A. Brotto\, PhD\n\nTalk Title: Communication Etiquette Within
  and Outside Academia\n\nBio: Lori A. Brotto\, PhD\, R Psych is the Execu
 tive Director of the Women’s Health Research Institute at BC Women’s H
 ospital and Health Centre. Dr. Brotto is a Professor in the Department of 
 Obstetrics and Gynaecology\, with a Joint Appointment in the Department of
  Psychiatry. She holds a Canada Research Chair in Women’s Sexual Health.
  Her program of research focuses on women’s sexual health\, and includes
  randomized controlled trials of psychological interventions (such as mind
 fulness and cognitive behavioural therapy) to address low desire in women 
 and chronic genital pain (vulvodynia). She has a strong interest in qualit
 y of life among survivors\, and has been involved in a number of studies t
 o address sexual health among cancer survivors. To that end\, she is a mem
 ber of the Gynecologic Cancer Collaborative Cluster\, lead by Dr. Gavin St
 uart. Her CFI-funded research lab is located at Vancouver Hospital and is 
 equipped with sexual psychophysiological measures\, an eye tracker\, and i
 nfrastructure to support salivary hormone collections. She also collaborat
 es on studies exploring asexuality\, culture and sexuality\, and most rece
 ntly\, digital technologies to deliver women’s sexual health programs.\n
 \nAs a member of the Women’s Health Research Cluster\, she is part of th
 e “Applied” theme\, which collectively examine women’s health resear
 ch and its applications to clinical practice and policy. In her role as WH
 RI Executive Director\, Dr. Brotto works closely with the Provincial Healt
 h Services Authority (PHSA) as well as other health authorities to raise t
 he profile of research. This relationship also provides opportunities to c
 hampion women’s research needs across PHSA settings.\n\n\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\
