Using Brain Organoids to Study Sex Differences and Estradiol’s Effect During Human Neurodevelopment

Speaker: Dr. Deepak Srivastava, Professor, Departments of Pediatrics and Biochemistry and Biophysics, UC San Francisco
Deepak is a Professor of Molecular Neuroscience at King’s College London. He got his PhD from University of Cambridge and carried out his post-doctoral training in the Penzes lab at Northwestern University. Deepak’s lab are very interested in modelling neurodevelopmental disorders using human cellular systems, and have had a long standing interest in understanding how estrogens impact synapses.
Talk summary: In this seminar, I will discuss our findings on studying sex differences and the sex-specific effects of estradiol during human neurodevelopment, using brain organoid models generated from human pluripotent stem cells.
