Talk summary:
Although the menopausal transition is a natural event that every woman who reaches the middle-age stage of life will experience, it is often accompanied by adverse physical (e.g., vasomotor symptoms, sleep difficulties, sexual concerns) and emotional (e.g., anxiety, depression) changes that significantly impact functioning and overall quality of life. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is emerging as an effective nonpharmacological treatment for menopausal symptoms as either a complementary or alternative form of treatment. During this presentation, the most common menopausal symptoms will be reviewed along with the cognitive and behavioural strategies that have been tailored to meet the unique needs of women during this transition.
