Carling Smith’s research interests revolve around understanding sex differences in the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas. Pursuing her graduate studies in the Rideout Lab at the University of British Columbia, Carling aims to elucidate how insulin producing cells of the endocrine pancreas in male and female mice respond differently to stress. She received her bachelor’s degree in biology at Western University and has been passionate about advocating for the inclusion of female model organisms in research to gain insights into differences between the sexes at various levels of biological organization.
