Jeffrey Man Hay Wong
Jeff is the current Reproductive Infectious Diseases Clinical Fellow and CTN Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of British Columbia. After obtaining his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, he completed his Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency at the University of British Columbia. He graduated with the Yamuna Kalyanpur Prize for embodying kindness, compassion, and being in the top 10 percentile academically of the residency program. He previously served on the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Canada Infectious Diseases Committee, where he developed national vaccination guidelines and educational modules amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jeff’s experience with local/international HIV-related activism and research continue to inform him of the intersectionality of many vulnerable populations. He is an active member of the International AIDS Society (IAS) and was sponsored to attend the IAS Conference 2023 in Brisbane, Australia, as part of the IAS Mentorship Programme. He was recently awarded the Early Career Presenter Award at the 2024 International Workshop on HIV and Women.
As an early career researcher, Jeff’s experiences have resulted in published scientific articles, abstracts, and oral/poster presentations in PLoS One, Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology Canada, International Journal of Women’s Health, Neurology and Urodynamics, Journal of the Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease Canada (JAMMI), Infectious Diseases Society in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Annual Meeting. He is the current recipient of the JAMMI Trainee Published Manuscript Award and the D.A. Boyes Memorial Research Award. He was previously awarded the CTN Postdoctoral Fellowship Award, the Allen-Carey Scholarship in Women’s Health, and the Dawn Walker Grant from the Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health to support his subspecialty training.
His academic interests include improving perinatal care in patients living with HIV, addressing congenital syphilis, global obstetrical care and medical education. Ultimately, Jeff aspires to be an evidence-based clinician involved in clinical/public health research, and an engaging educator.
