Rebecca Smythe

Rebecca is an MSc candidate at the University of Toronto, working out of the Familial Breast Cancer Research Unit at Women’s College Hospital. Her research focuses on improving the quality of breast cancer care for transgender and gender diverse (TGD) patients across Canada. Specifically, she aims to characterize the barriers, challenges, inequities, and inadequacies faced by TGD individuals with breast cancer and learn how care can become more inclusive. She also works as a research coordinator on the Frailty and Risk Assessment in Gynecologic Oncology (FARGO) study which aims to characterize the efficacy of frailty assessments in determining post-surgical outcomes in gynecologic oncology patients. She is pursuing a collaborative specialization in Women’s Health, fueled by her interests in health equity and women’s health. Outside of academics, Rebecca enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with loved ones.
