Award Guidelines
The Travel Award provides up to 20 awards of $250CAD each to subsidize conference registration or travel costs. Application eligibility will be assessed by the WHRC team. The award is offered twice a year, in the Spring and Fall.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Travel Award, applicants must:
- Be a trainee with an academic institution (Undergraduate -> Postdoctoral Researcher), including students training for registered professions (nurse, MD, OT, etc.).
- Only apply for one (1) award per cycle (Spring/Fall).
- Not have received a WHRC Travel Award in that calendar year.
- Be registered as a member of the WHRC. Membership is free and you can click here to become a member and gain access to many member benefits.
- Be presenting your work related any domain of women’s health or on sex/gender effects (i.e., poster or presentation) at an upcoming conference. AND/OR
- Be attending a conference focused on women’s health and/or sex/gender.
- Applicants who are presenting their own work will have a competitive advantage.
The Travel Award encourages applications from First Nations, Métis and Inuit, racialized and 2SLGBTQ+ communities, women, people with disabilities (including people who have experienced mental health and substance use challenges), and those not listed who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas.
Application Requirements
If you are attending a conference about women’s health or sex/gender differences:
- You will be asked to indicate which conference you plan to attend and outline how it relates to women’s health or sex/gender research.
- You are not required to register for the conference before applying for this award, but proof of registration will be requested before funds can be distributed.
- Travel and conference expenses must be incurred in the 6 months before or after the notice of decision to be eligible.
- The award cannot be transferred to a different conference than the one originally outlined in the application.
- Awardees will be required to share how the travel award has enriched their experience and/or knowledge about women’s health or sex/gender differences research within 6 months of award.
If you are presenting women’s health or sex/gender differences research at a conference:
- The criteria above are applicable and you will be asked to provide an abstract on your research.
- Proof of abstract acceptance by a conference is required before funds are distributed, but are not required at time of application.
Application Deadline
Applications are due June 20th, 2025 at 5:00PM (ET).
Notice of Award
Awardees will be informed in July 2025.
