Dr Paul Faulkner is an Assistant Professor at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). He holds an MSc in Neuroscience from King’s College London and a PhD from University College London, where he examined the neural and cognitive mechanisms of Mood Disorders. He then undertook an NIH-funded postdoc at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), in which he examined sex differences in the neural mechanisms of emotion regulation and substance use disorders. As a result of this work, he was a recipient of a Sex Differences Young Investigator of the Year Award from the U.S. National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) and College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD).
In his current role at QMUL, he undertakes research into the neural, hormonal and nutritional mechanisms of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), and is interested alleviating the debilitating symptoms of this disorder via novel interventions including non-invasive brain stimulation techniques and nutrition.
