Seminar Title: Intergenerational Transmission of Domestic Violence and Gender: Walking in Their Footsteps

Presenter: Dr. Nisha Malhotra, Faculty member, Vancouver School of Economics, UBC

Dr. Malhotra’s work is that of an inter-disciplinary social scientist with a strong interest in questions related to Development, Gender and Global Health. Her recent work focuses on gender based violence and socio-economic determinants of health related behaviour (mostly in South Asia). Her current research examines the gender differences in risky behaviour with respect to HIV transmission in Zambia, and domestic violence within consanguineous marriages in Pakistan.

She has worked with International organizations like the World Bank (Washington DC), Asia Pacific Foundation (Vancouver), and the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (New Delhi). She has published in health, economics and social policy journals such as the Public Health Nutrtition, the Canadian Journal of Economics, and Canadian Public Policy.

Nisha Malhotra holds a Ph.D. in economics from University of Maryland (College Park), and is a faculty member in the vancouver school of economics at UBC. She grew up in Thailand, England and India and now resides in Canada with her family.
