Emma Skaug
Emma Skaug is an interdisciplinary master’s student at the University of Victoria, working in the Christie Lab (Division of Medical Sciences) and CHEERs Lab (Exercise and Physical Health Education), and collaborating with Canadian Sport Institute Pacific. Emma’s research investigates the impact of REDs on cerebrovascular endothelial function and cognitive performance. Fuelled by her personal experience with REDs as a young athlete, and her undergraduate research experience investigating brain health outcomes of concussion, Emma is interested in the intricate relationship between under-fuelling and brain health, and what may be done to mitigate potential long-term effects. Outside of school, Emma currently competes in 70.3 triathlon and previously raced as a guide for VI paratriathlete, Jessica Tuomela, with the Triathlon Canada national team.
