Lucas Fowler
Lucas F. Fowler (he/they) is a doctoral student under the supervision of Dr. Ashlyn Swift-Gallant and Lindsay Cahill at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. Lucas is broadly interested in behavioural neuroendocrinology and uses mouse models to study the effects of various exposures (e.g., infection, micro- and nanoplastics, and housing differences) on brain and behaviour during sensitive periods (e.g., early life, puberty, and maternity). Currently, he is studying whether maternal exposure to micro- and nanoplastics can disrupt hormone signalling in the brain, alter placental structure and function, and affect caretaking behaviour, leading to sex-specific impacts on offspring development. Lucas is also a fierce advocate for LGBTQIA+ inclusion in academia and for including sex and gender as variables of interest in biomedical research.
