Maryana Kravtsenyuk
I, Dr. Maryana Kravtsenyuk (MD, MSc, FRCPC), am a medical doctor with a speciality in psychiatry, and a subspeciality in forensic psychiatry; I am on the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada subspeciality register. I completed psychiatric training at the University of Alberta in 2015 and a forensic psychiatry fellowship at the University of Toronto in 2016. I completed additional training in forensic psychiatry, understood to be the assessment of mental disorder, and the impact/outcome of that mental disorder(s) in third party context, including with respect to all criminal and civil proceedings, regulatory body proceedings, and labour arbitration, etc. I hold an Associate Professor position in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alberta and at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
Between 2016 and July of 2023, I was an active member of the medical staff in Forensic Services at Alberta Hospital Edmonton (Alberta Health Services). While in Alberta, I was also a consultant psychiatrist at the maximum-security federal penitentiary, Edmonton Institution, and at the provincial jail, Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre; providing general psychiatric care to individuals detained in correctional facilities.
I joined the Law and Mental Health program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in August 2023. As an active member of the medical staff, I conduct court-ordered assessments and provide care to the individuals under the Provincial Criminal Code Review Board. I conduct assessments for the Mental Health Court in Toronto and provide general and forensic psychiatric services in Northern Ontario.
I hold active practice permits in multiple jurisdictions including Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Northwest Territories. In my practice, I conduct third-party medico-legal psychiatric assessments for criminal and civil proceedings; these address issues such as criminal responsibility; fitness to stand trial; risk of violent or sexual re-offence; disability; and return to work.
