Styliani Goulopoulou

Dr. Stella Goulopoulou is an Associate Professor of Physiology at the Lawrence Longo Center for Perinatal Biology at Loma Linda University (LLU), Loma Linda, California, USA. She studied Kinesiology and Physical Education at the National and Kapodistrian University in Athens, Greece, before earning her MS and PhD in Science Education and Exercise Physiology at Syracuse University, followed by postdoctoral training in vascular physiology at the Medical College of Georgia.

Dr. Goulopoulou’s research focuses on women’s health, particularly the risk factors that contribute to cardiovascular disease. She studies maternal hypertension during pregnancy and how gynecologic diseases impact women’s vascular health. Her work has been funded by the American Heart Association, the Preeclampsia Foundation, the NIH, and, most recently, the LLU intramural GCAT program.

Passionate about equity in science and healthcare, Dr. Goulopoulou fosters a supportive environment for her trainees and approaches research with a commitment to diversity and inclusivity. Inspired by Maya Angelou’s words, she believes: “What you’re supposed to do when you don’t like a thing is change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it …”
